Information Behind the Scenes | State of Matecraft #5
Posted by: Sequacious - 07-03-2020, 02:46 AM - Forum: Behind the Scenes - Replies (1)

Hey all!
Been a while since the last one so thought I'd bring you all up to speed on the latest.
We get asked a lot of things and while we give answers, we don't always explain them the best.

1.16:
The upgrade to 1.16 has been a rocky road to say the least.
Nexus, Elite Survival & Creative are all currently running on Minecraft 1.16.1, on a software called PaperSpigot.
PaperSpigot, while being based on the very popular software Spigot [which took over from Bukkit], is a different beast entirely.
It offers countless improvements over Spigot and Minecraft, however with these changes come risks.
We jumped the gun in upgrading to 1.16 and as many of you have seen, some players had issues connecting to servers for various reasons and ES' Nether was closed due to bugged generation. These have all been reported to the correct people but unfortunately it's a waiting game for the fixes to come out and it's not something we have the power to fix ourselves, nor can we downgrade to 1.15.
Unfortunately with Mojang announcing 1.16.2 to release sometime in the near future that also means more work for those devs and for us, it also means a slowdown in development altogether as everyone is waiting to see what Mojang will fix so they don't have to do it themselves, which is entirely fair.

What's Next:
Once the relevant fixes have come out and we can consider our servers once again stable a lot of things can be set in motion, namely;
----------------------
- Elite Survival
-- Reopen Elite Survival Nether
-- Restart the Vanquisher Challenge
----------------------
- Creative
-- Open the Nether FreeBuild
----------------------
- Aether
-- Full 1.16 Update
-- Nether Reset for;
--- SkyGrid
--- CaveBlock
--- SkyBlock [Maybe]*
--- AcidIsland [Maybe]*
---- *These modes run off schematics so unless those schematics are rebuilt from the ground up, resetting them won't change a thing.*
-- Add 1.15 & 1.16 Items to Shops
-- Correct Villager Trading
----------------------
- Minigames
-- Full 1.16 Updates
-- Arcade Opening
----------------------
- Enchanted
-- 1.16 Testing
----------------------

In the Meantime;
In the meantime a lot is going on behind the scenes, mostly quality of life improvements but I'm going to list it all here in case you missed it;
----------------------
Nameplates
Nameplates have received an overhaul;
- Donators of ALL tiers now have their tag after their name over their head
[Image: Ne5jMIy.png]
- Staff members' nameplate prefix now alternates between their role and "|Staff|"
[Image: lF2sYLo.png]
----------------------
Runecraft Ranks
Runecraft Ranks have had their tags changed to better support chat on multiple versions, as well as add a sense of cohesion between the ranks.
[Image: KZmmtlf.png]
----------------------
Tags
- Redesigned Menu
[Image: rxiALCV.png]
- Converted 'Devotee' into the Devoted Set with more rewards
[Image: QYlFoQg.png]
----------------------
Server Navigation
- Enchantment Glow & modified description on the server you're currently on
[Image: 9Sg2D0A.png]
- Edited message sent to Player on Click
----------------------
Matecraft In-Game Store
- Better Links - [No more /category/8008135/]
- Added Tags - https://store.matecraft.org/category/tags
- Removed SkyBlock - Zen Islands Category
- Corrected name and desc for Aether Flight
- Corrected name for Elite Survival Category and Elite Survival Flight package
- Updated In-Game /donate Menu Icons

[Image: I2GsUGV.png]
----------------------
Voting
- New GUI which displays timer until next vote
[Image: dqk9kqW.png]
- Voting on all sites grants Builder Tier 1 perks on Creative, minus the tags, for 24 hours
----------------------
Minigames
- Bombermate
-- Recolored Large Banner Signs
-- Modified Platform Coloring
-- NPC Added
- SuperSmashMates
-- Redesigned & Recolored Large Banner Signs
-- Modified Platform Coloring
-- Slight NPC Placement Corrections
- Arcade
-- Lobby Platform changed from MateQuake to Arcade
--- Recolor
--- Towers Added
--- Signs Corrected
----------------------

As a few last things before I wrap this up, some of you may be aware some of you are not.
- The Builder system in Creative is going under the hammer [pardon the pun], bring broken down and rebuilt.
You will NOT lose any ranks currently earned or perks contained within them. You WILL have to adhere to the new criteria in order to progress further.
We'll share more on this as time goes on but it's in very early stages and not ready to be revealed just yet.
Just keep an eye out for a few new tags showing up here and there. Might wanna check that Builder System thread out too...

We currently have a promotion going where if you run '/redeem PiglinPal' on Nexus you get your own Piglin pet to keep so be sure to check that out!
[Image: OL9O7wc.png]
You can also nab yourself a fluffy Sheep with '/redeem FeelingSheepish', and heck, you made it this far do why not give '/redeem GoingBatty' a try too!

That's it from me for now.
I know this was a long one but hopefully you learned something you didn't know before, we'll be quiet from an announcement side of things until we can get 1.16 up and running for everyone but we'll be sure to share anything that's worth sharing along the way!

Until next time, Happy Matecrafting!

  Merch no Longer Available
Posted by: magmaguy - 05-14-2020, 02:07 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

Hello everyone,

We have decided to close the limited merch run a bit earlier than originally planned because we just received the merch ourselves and have realized that teespring seems to be experiencing some sort of issue fulfilling the orders.

In regards to the hoodies, they are mostly fine, even though we're not quite as happy with the quality of the print as we could be, it still is a good quality hoodie, as expected, and something I'd be relatively happy to promote.

However, teespring seems to have completely messed up the t-shirts. The print is actually really good, and the material is fine, but the colors do not match the solid black and solid white colors we ordered.

I believe that ultimately I bought most of the t-shirts, and I am at this time considering asking for a refund for the t-shirts to teespring. If you ordered these (I believe only one other person did), and are unsatisfied with the what you got, I encourage you to do the same and ask teespring for a refund.

Should they ultimately refuse to refund you, send me a direct message on Discord with evidence that they did so and I will refund you myself.

We did not seek to do this for profit - each sale gave us a profit of about 40 cents before taxes I believe, which was about as cheap as we could make them - but I will not stand by promoting the sale of something that could be considered false advertising.

We hope that you were not negatively impacted by this.

Best,

- MagmaGuy

Addendum:

We've verified that only Sequacious and me have purchased t-shirts. As such, this shouldn't really affect any users.

Hello all!
Welcome to the series of updates I will be posting as time goes on, bringing the community up-to-speed with the goings on of the network.
It's been a while since my last update and not much has happened since the 7th Anniversary Events, but there are a few things we can bring you up to speed on!

- Aether - As many of you know, all Aether modes have been combined into a single server with shared inventories. OneBlock has also been added so give it a go!
The Oracle shop has also reopened and more stock is being added as time goes on.
- There is currently an issue with spawners not spawning mobs as they should, it's being looked into.

- /nav Updates - I've made some updates to the server navigation menu to make it easier to get to the modes you want. Keep an eye on it as there'll be more updates coming.
Changes Include;
-- All Survival based modes moved to top half
-- Moved Minigames to main menu
-- Merged SkyBlock, SkyGrid, AcidIsland & CaveBlock into one Aether icon.
-- Changed MateQuake item to Firework

Which leads neatly on to my next point;
- MateQuake - Minigames on the server have been quite well received, although of the 3, Quake was lacking in a few key areas;
-- Unfair advantage to older players vs new
-- Server was stuck on 1.12 so maps were difficult to design
-- Of the 3 minigames, MateQuake was the least exclusive to Matecraft

So with this information, MateQuake is in the process of being reborn as Arcade!
Arcade currently has 8 gamemodes, all running natively in 1.15.2, with 4 more planned before it re-opens some time in the near future.
Currently Running;
- Quake
- Temple Run
- Prop Hunt
- TNT Tag
- Bomb Lobbers
- Mini Walls
- Splegg
- Party Games
Being Worked On;
- The Towers
- Village Defence
- Murder Mystery
- Build Battle
We've done some play testing on these modes and all are super fun! We hope you'll have as much fun playing as we did testing!

Until next time, Happy Matecrafting!

  Poll | 7th Anniversary Feedback
Posted by: vertanzil - 04-30-2020, 10:32 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

Hello there

Following on from the 7th Anniversary We wanted to hear from the community at large, and ask for your feedback about what they thought of the events that we had planned. But also to get feedback on what you would like to see done differently next time.

So we have put together a survey which has just over half a dozen questions, again I want to stress that this survey is totally optional and you do not have to fill this in if you do not wish).

All of the data will be collected anonymously and will be totalled at the end and passed back for the staff to review.

Thank you.

Posted by: vertanzil - 04-19-2020, 01:27 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

Hello everyone.

As you all know, we have been building up to the 7th Anniversary of Matecraft. This coming week we have some special events planned to celebrate, we also have not one but three big events planned.

The majority of the events will be hosted by Forrrr & CaptainKitty and these are due to happen between 6 PM GMT to 10 PM GMT.
So that we are crystal clear on what the structure of the week is going to be and what events are happening on each day, I have created a timetable which you can find below.

If you do have any questions regarding the upcoming events, could you please direct them to Forrrr or CaptainKitty, If you could please get as many screenshots as you can of the events during the week and post them in the  #Media channel in discord that would be much appreciated.

Enjoy

[Image: y75mrPM.png]

Hello, everyone, I am starting another campaign and asking for your help. If you follow us on Instagram (@MatecraftOfficial) we have started posting screenshots and various bits and pieces of media and some advertisements as well.

What I am looking for is screenshots of the server for us to post on our social media pages. I want to start a collection of them, So that either myself or anyone else who is working on Marketing & PR can access them and use them to post.

If you have any screenshots of the server, please share them in the #Media channel in discord and tag me in (@Vertanzil) and I can pick these up and sort through them.
I would appreciate it if you have a lot of images and could upload these to a website where I can download them all in one go and share the link with me (Anywhere like Imgur, Google Drive, One Drive ETC), that would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello all!
Welcome to the series of updates I will be posting as time goes on, bringing the community up-to-speed with the goings on of the network.

Let's start off with a few known issues that staff are working on;
- SkyGrid likes to crash when new players make a grid - This has been reported to the developer responsible for the SkyGrid plugin and it is being worked on
- All servers have been crashing quite a bit recently - This was due to a botched update and should be fixed right now!

Now let's move on to some things that have happened, that you may or may not have noticed over the past week;
- Server Command Handling - I've spent quite a lot of time optimising the command handling network wide so that there's as little strain as possible on each server. You may notice your commands are ever so slightly quicker! You may also notice that /hub, /lobby & /playtime among other commonly used commands on other servers now actually serve a function within ours!
- Staff - You might've seen that there have been quite a lot of recruitment and promotions the past while. This is primarily to ensure there can always be staff on with tools they need to keep the server enjoyable for the Community, but it also leads onto my next point;
- Helpers - If you're a long time player of Matecraft you may remember the Helper system. This system allowed players to actively apply for staff and work their way through the ranks, and ultimately decide if it was right for them as well. The Helper system is indeed returning, and very soon so keep your eyes open!

Lastly, let's look at Matecraft's 7th Birthday coming up on the 20th!
- Competition - MagmaGuy has launched a Trailer Competition on Discord for a huge amount of Matecraft Store credit & a 1 time earnable in game prefix just for taking part!
Rules are as follows;
Announcing a blast from the past! To celebrate 7 years of Matecraft, we are asking you to make a video trailer featuring whatever it is that you like about Matecraft!
Rewards:
 1st place: $60 store credit
 2nd place: $30 store credit
 3rd place: $10 store credit

[Image: mQj5FCF.png]
To participate, make a video under 3 minutes featuring what you like in Matecraft, then upload it to YouTube, post it in #media on Discord so we can see it! Group submissions are allowed, but rewards will be shared.
The entries will close on the 20th, the day of the anniversary!

- Merchandise - For the second time ever we're selling Matecraft t-shirts and hoodies to celebrate 7 years of Matecraft! These will one be available until mid-May so get them while they're here!

 White Outline Logo | Black, Grey or Navy Hoodie - https://teespring.com/en/matecraft-white...cid=103888

One last thing that might interest you is that Vertanzil and Forrrr have initial results back from the survey they posted a few days ago.
Results Here: https://www.matecraft.org/showthread.php?tid=1410

Until next time, Happy Matecrafting!

Rainbow Community | Survey - Results so Far
Posted by: vertanzil - 04-13-2020, 11:19 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

Survey data – The results so far.

Hello everyone
I want to start by saying a massive thank you to everyone, who took the time out of their day to post on the survey and give us the feedback which has been really helpful and quite informative as to how you all interact with the server.
This data so far is based on the results we have had so far if you are still wanting to give us your feedback you are more than welcome to do so by clicking here.

Sit back and enjoy this rather long and in-depth look at the information provided.
All of this data is anonymous and we do not know who has given us certain answers and the survey is completely optional and you do not have to do it if you so choose.

So the first question and the reason why I wanted to do this was to try and better understand the player base and how you came across Matecraft and to refocus marketing. (see the graph below).

[Image: nvhHRzA.png]

The majority of players who voted had feedback that they found us by word of mouth, this could be from a friend, family member, etc. This is fantastic to hear that so many people are talking about the server and getting new people to join.
We are looking into a reward scheme and this is something that is currently in the works.
Seven of you managed to find us by searching for Minecraft servers or Matecraft on google and came across us.
Surprisingly only six of you managed to find us across all of the voting sites we currently advertise on, I would like to remind everyone if you can please keep voting as this does help massively.

They where a few odd stragglers two people managed to find us off of other forums (One was by Sequacious profile on Spigot) and one person found us because of a streamer.
The second question we asked was what do you like to do on Matecraft?

  • Elite Survival topped the polls with 29% of the vote
  • Enchanted came second with 23%
  • Minigames was third with 11%
  • The Aether or Skyblock game modes totalled 14% of the overall vote
  • Classic was last with 1%.
  •
This is interesting because it tells me that Elite Survival is extremely popular with the player base and that perhaps some of the other game modes not so much. Which is something to look at going forward?

The third question that we asked was what attracted you to Matecraft in the first place, there are no surprises that word of mouth came top of this list. Which again is incredible that you are talking about the server to other people and getting them to come and check out the server.

The marketing did draw a few people into the server and perhaps not as many as I would have expected but there is still time for this to improve and change over the coming months.
It’s worth noting that some people joined because of certain plugins and the fact that we have a zero-tolerance approach to griefers.

Which again is fantastic to see as this means that all of the staff are getting rid of the disruptive and abusive players from the server.

Question four was all about why do you the players keep coming back to Matecraft and what makes you want to keep engaged.

I was glad to see that the community was head and shoulders above the rest with51% of the overall vote so far.

[Image: HQbx0QM.png]

This is amazing to see that the reason that you keep coming back is because of the players and staff on the server with the majority of the vote overall. Also, that you are happy with the update schedule and quality of things to do on the server as well.

I would personally like to see more events as I know that this polled quite low but was mentioned several times in the last question (which I will get to shortly).

One of the last questions that we asked was all about playtime and how long you interact with the server daily.

[Image: GhAVMNg.png]

This was quite interesting as it tells me that when players join the server, they spend on average around 3 to 4 hours playing on the server before they leave to do something else.

Whereas a majority of you might only spend an hour here or there playing each day, which kind of ties into what we can do to improve the server which I am going to get to and if this number changes once all of the changes have been made.

The last thing that was asked was more of a suggestion and was what would you change to make the server better. This had a range of different answers and I have given this back to Sequacious & Magma to have a look at and discuss between themselves.

But as a bit of an insight the majority of these where aimed at Elite Survival and wanting to make changes there (which I have passed to Magma to look into).

Another thing that was mentioned quite a bit was wanting more community events and is again something I have passed back (I just want to say a big thank you to Kitty for running the events that she has done so far. As we had some very positive feedback from players on how much they enjoy them).

This is everything that I have so far if you have enjoyed reading this rather long post about what you think let me know.

In the future I might end up doing more of these as this kind of information we get from the player base is massively helpful, in the efforts to improve the server and also make the changes that you want to see and implement new things.

I would also like to remind you to keep voting for the server across all of the vote sites and get your merch while it is here and prepare for the 7th-anniversary celebrations.
Thank you.

Video Community | Poll Results & Video Trailer Contest
Posted by: vertanzil - 04-10-2020, 11:52 PM - Forum: Contests - No Replies

Hello everyone.

I wanted to give you a bit of a follow up on the last behind the scenes post that I made and a few other things that are currently happening.
In the last post I asked you our community some questions about what you would like to see next.
I am happy to say that you voted and some of the results you made it quite loud and clear what you wanted.

The first poll was regarding adding vote reminders to remind you when in game to vote for the server, this passed with a whopping 78% of people in favour of this and is something that we will be looking to implement shortly.

Also, the Refer a friend scheme & redeemable limited rewards passed and is something that everyone seems really interested to get on board with and get implemented.

As for the other things that you voted for the leader boards for top voters, x number of votes and having a drop party, tags for voters are all things to be looked into to see if they are going to be viable.

Leading up to the 7-year celebrations we are going to be holding a special content for all of you budding video editors.

We are wanting everyone who is taking part to create a video trailer for the server, showing of the various aspects of the server (you can even feature your own builds and friends in the video as well)

The first prize will be $60 store credit, $30 store credit for second place and $10 for third place.

Everyone who participates gets a free red play button tag! To participate, make a video under 3 minutes featuring what you like in Matecraft, then upload it to YouTube, post it in #?general and tag  @MagmaGuy so we can see it! Group submissions are allowed, but rewards will be shared. The entries will close on the 20th, the day of the anniversary!

We are also looking for your opinion on the server and what you think, we have been working hard to get this set up. We are looking for people to give us their feedback this will only take a few minutes of your time, all of the data is anonymous and is completely optional.

Thanks
